About Medjugorje
On June 24th, 1981 – the feast day of St. John the Baptist – the Virgin Mary appeared on a hill in the rural village of Medjugorje in the former communist Yugoslavia (now Bosnia-Herzegovina). Six children – Ivanka Ivankovic, Mirjana Dragicevic, Vicka Ivankovic, Marija Pavlovic, Ivan Dragicevic, and Jacov Colo – became witnesses of Her appearance, and have now been seeing and speaking with Her for over 30 years.
Between the extensive scientific, psychological, medical, and theological testing these six individuals have undergone for the past 30 years, it is difficult for even the most hardened skeptics to deny their claims. Hundreds of sick and disabled have been cured of otherwise incurable diseases and conditions (including blindness); Hundreds of thousands have experienced life changing conversions – a change in their heart that awakens them to the reality of God. Hundreds of religious vocations have come from these conversions, and millions of faithful have come to Medjugorje from around the world to pray, fast, and carry the peace they receive back to their homes.
Although much of the conversations between The Blessed Mother and the visionaries remain private, She gives a message on the 25th of every month for the entire world. At the heart of these messages are prayer, conversion of heart, a return to God and the church (the sacraments), love, and peace.
She has entrusted the visionaries with 10 “secrets” or future events that will occur. The visionary Mirjana, who was the first to receive all 10 secrets, will reveal them to a priest (she has chosen Father Petar Lubicic) 10 days before each event will unfold. The two of them will pray and fast for 7 days, and 3 days before each event the priest will announce it publicly to the world. Although we don’t know what these events entail, we do know that the 3rd secret will be a permanent, visible, and indestructible sign at the place where Our Lady first appeared in Medjugorje. We know that some of the later secrets are very difficult.
As Mirjana told me in our interview, “Our Lady said: ‘What I started in Fatima, I will finish in Medjugorje. My heart will triumph.’ And I can’t imagine Our Lady’s heart could triumph without all people believing.”
